The Dr. Rob Show

In this episode of The Dr. Rob Show, we discuss recent research that indicates resistance training, even as little as 2 days per week can improve risk factors for heart disease and Type 2 Diabetes.  Normal aging typically leads to a decline in hormones levels, which can results in the loss of lean muscle mass.  This loss of muscle tissue can increase the risk of developing metabolic disorders such as Type 2 Diabetes.  Resistance training can counter act the decline in lean muscle mass and decrease the risk of heart disease and Type 2 Diabetes.

In this episode of The Dr. Rob Show…

  • Discuss “plaque build up” and what that means in relation to heart disease.
  • Discuss the benefits of resistance training in addition to weight loss
  • Discuss how muscle tissue prefers to burn “fat” as opposed to sugar as an energy source.
  • Discuss how hormones decline with age and the positive impact resistance training can have on slowing that decline.
  • Discuss the effects resistance training vs. cardiovascular training.
  • Discuss specific types of resistance training based exercises.

You need to eat a lot of high quality protein and carbs in order to efficiently build muscle mass from an intensive weight training program. Working out with really heavy weight will help build power and mass.
